A knife and/or multi-tool can be very helpful in outdoor situations. There are several different styles of knives that make specific tasks easier but a knife is a knife and can be made to work in most situations. However, we will break some of them down for you. We’ll talk a little about wire saws and knife sharpeners too.
Field Knife – The field knife is probably the most versatile for use in the outdoors. It can be used to skin a deer, clear brush, and whittle. Some people like a folding knife but we prefer a locked blade. You can get knives at any of these places online:

We like to go to Big 5 and see what kind of deals they have on knives and wait for the one we want to go on sale. We like the skinning knives that have little bit of a serrated edge somewhere on the knife, long enough to be able chop, yet short enough to carve. One of these days we want to try the TOPS Tahoma.
